Historic Bell
This impressive historic bell, with its beautifully crafted wooden bell frame, is a remarkable testament to traditional craftsmanship and times gone by. The robust wooden structure, complemented by hand-forged metal fittings, lends the entire ensemble an authentic and timeless character.
The richly ornamented bronze bell, featuring a distinctive relief and a well-preserved clapper mechanism, offers a vivid glimpse into an era when bells were far more than mere instruments for telling the time. They shaped the rhythm of everyday life and were an integral part of village communities and rural culture.
The yoke is of particular historical significance. Dating back approximately 200 years, it comes from the smallest bell in the south tower of Brixen Cathedral. As bell-ringing systems gradually became electrified, the original manually operated mechanism was replaced by a mechanical solution. The historic yoke, however, was preserved and today stands as a valuable testament to traditional bell-ringing practices and the craftsmanship of a bygone era.
Another noteworthy feature is the original mechanical pulling mechanism, which has survived to this day and once allowed the bell to be rung by hand.
This exceptional historic ensemble brings together traditional craftsmanship, sacred history and rural heritage. It not only preserves the memory of times gone by, but also offers a tangible and compelling insight into the evolution of bells and bell-ringing techniques.
